Understanding and Experiencing the Holy Spirit

"What's the deal the with this Holy Spirit stuff?" I blurted out on the patio at our local Coffee Shop. We had just finished small group, where I had noticed a few causual references to "the Spirit". I had been going to a new Church for about 3 months and everyone there was saying Holy Spirit this or Holy Spirit that. In my old Church we only said the Holy Spirit right before we dunked somebody (baptism).. you know Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit, spash.
"You should come to this prayer meeting, the Holy Spirit has been showing up there stronger than I've experienced in a long time." said Jennifer.
"Sure", I said with a mixture of excitement, confusion, questions, and cynicism.
When I got home I went to the
bible gateway and searched for the word Spirit and hit print. I started in Genesis and a footnote said that "breath" in Hebrew is the same as Spirit. I went back to the gateway and typed "breath" and hit print. Over the next few days I read every single verse in the bible that had to do with breath or spirit.
When I arrived at the prayer meeting, I wanted the filling of the Holy Spirit. But
ONLY if it was
REAL only if it wasn't some emotional thing, but the
genuine touch of God.
That was 10 years ago and my life has never been the same since. It's like the scene in the matrix where Mr. Anderson chooses the blue pill. A third of the Bible suddenly made sense to me for the first time. I no longer just believed in God, but I knew Him and experienced Him. If I've learned one thing about the Holy Spirit, since then it is that you can't make Him do anything. But it's my hope that this group will discuss, experience, and grow in the Holy Spirit in a way that truly touches people and releases them into their callings and giftings.
